Walk For Dan 2021
Pop the weekend of 13 - 14th November in the Diary!
Given the current pandemic, we are again unable to run a large in-person event this year. We invite you, your family and your friends to join members of the BCA community on the weekend of November 13-14th, as we virtually Walk for Dan.
What if covid restrictions lift?
In early November, we will assess the level of government restrictions. If we are able to have smaller groups to meet and walk together at an allocated time on the weekend of November 13-14th, we will!
Closer to walk weekend, BCA's Dr Steph Demkiw and Dan's brother, Michael Christidis will make the in-person group arrangements! Please keep an eye on your email for updates!
What is Walk For Dan?
In 2019 “Walk for Dan” launched. A walk involving over 250 participants, around the Royal Botanic Gardens, Melbourne. There were over 300 donations with $13,000 raised, for the Daniel Christidis Urology Research Scholarship.
One of the rising stars of Urology, Dan was lost to us on Monday 5th November, 2018 after a fatal shark attack at Cid Harbour in the Whitsunday Islands, Queensland.
Daniel was a remarkable person who wore many hats – son, brother, friend, doctor, researcher, young urologist, mentor, international contributor and organiser. He has been described by colleagues as ‘charming, with an infectious smile, full of confidence, yet humble, gifted beyond words and destined for greatness.’
You can read Dan’s full story and tributes at here.
At age 33 years, Dan had so much left to give. We can only cherish what was shared with us all and celebrate a person who engaged rather than watched- who loved life to the fullest- something to which we can all aspire. Our thoughts are with his parents, brother and sister who are undoubtedly proud of Dan- an incredible individual who will never be forgotten.
So what is a Virtual Walk?
Walk when and where you want (within Covid-safe restrictions) ~ anytime over the weekend of 13th-14th November! Run on your treadmill, walk your favourite track, or simply stroll your neighbourhood. Whatever you choose, stay safe! (Mask up, Melbourne!) And don’t forget to share your photos and videos with us. Just post it to your social media with the hashtag #WalkforDan or email them to us at bcaaustralia@gmail.com (Note our email has two "a's").
